Renowned violinist and vocalist L. Shankar will be making a rare New York appearance alongside tabla maestro Abhijit Banerjee and Chris Garcia, who will play the South Indian ghatam (clay pot) and kanjira (frame drum). Shankar is known for his dazzling use of the 10-string double violin, which covers the whole range of the orchestra’s string section and has been utilized by Shankar to expand the international audience for Indian music.
