Faculty Success Stories: August 2017
Even in the dog days of summer, our professors never stop pushing boundaries. Here are a few recent notable accomplishments from our faculty members.
Although the summer is usually a time to close up the books and the laptops, not every Pace faculty member is hitting the beach. In fact, some have gone well above and beyond the call, earning extracurricular accolades for their expertise and recent research. Here are a few professors who we felt were worthy of particular shout-outs:
Elisabeth Haub School of Law Adjunct Professor Vernon Brown, JD, was recently named to Billboard’s “Top Music Industry Lawyers 2017.” Brown, who is also an alumnus of Pace Law, is the founder and owner of Brown & Associates and was recognized for his work with Cash Money Records founders and brothers Bryan “Birdman” Williams and Ronald “Slim” Williams, securing a distribution deal with Apple Music. He’s also working on the legalities surrounding Lil Wayne’s long-awaited Tha Carter V album.
“From my time as a student at Pace Law and having the most incredible faculty any student could hope for to now sharing my experience with students is the greatest honor of all,” says Brown.
Dyson Professor of Chemistry and Physical Sciences JaimeLee Rizzo, PhD, has been named a 2017 American Chemical Society (ACS) Fellow, which includes scientists who have demonstrated outstanding accomplishments in chemistry and have made important contributions to ACS, the world's largest scientific society.
Specifically, Rizzo is being honored for research involving the development of novel antimicrobial materials bearing major significance for public health. She has also been recognized for outreach to young people and the general public with the creation of a new Chemists Celebrate Earth Day event, two new high school outreach events, and supporting existing ones within the local section.
"It humbles me to have been bestowed the prestigious honor by the American Chemical Society," says Rizzo. "The Society has provided me with so many opportunities from my time as an undergraduate and graduate student, and continues to do so as a faculty member. It is with much gratitude and enthusiasm that I give back to the ACS and to the community!"
Rizzo will be formally recognized at a ceremony and reception on Monday, August 21, during the Society’s 254th National Meeting and Exposition in Washington, DC.
Dyson English Department Lecturer Brice Particelli, PhD, has been named a 2017 New York State Council on the Arts/New York Foundation for the Arts (NYSCA/NYFA) Artist Fellow in Nonfiction Literature, a major honor given to writers in New York State.
He is currently working on several short essays for publication, both narrative and academic, and a novel, Nakimoa, set in the Pacific Islands.
