50/50 Picks Up the Pace (PLV)

News Story

From civic engagement to slippin’ and slidin’, this week’s 50/50 will take you from unfettered fun to academic enlightenment, and all the way back again.

If last week’s 50/50 got the ball rolling, this one is helping that ball gain even more momentum. As you get into the groove of student life, here are some ways to keep those early semester days full of events that are worthwhile, informative, and downright fun.  

Take Action Table
Monday, September 11 | 12:10 p.m.–1:10 p.m.
Volunteer New York! and the Center for Community Action and Research are hosting a take action table for 9/11 Day of Service. Join the Center for Community Action and Research (CCAR) in writing thank you messages attached to lollipops—which will be sent to first-responders to provide a small act of gratitude for their fearlessness and heroism.

9/11 Candlelight Vigil
Monday, September 11 | 9:00 p.m. | Kessel Café
Join together with the PLV Community for the annual candlelight vigil to honor those who we lost on September 11.

Burn Away
Tuesday, September 12 | 9:00 p.m.–11:00 p.m. | Miller Lawn
If you love something, set it free. Write wishes, dreams, and aspirations on a piece of wish paper, which when lit leaves little to no ash or embers. Sweet dreams.

Campus Conversation on DACA
Tuesday, September 12 | 9:00 p.m.–11:00 p.m. | Kessel Multipurpose Room
Come have your questions answered about DACA, immigration status, financial aid, mixed status families, legal rights, medical insurance, how to respond to ICE and more. This event is sponsored by the LGBTQA Center, Multicultural Affairs and Diversity Programs, and the Center for Community Action and Research.

Commuter Life

Do you have the drive both inside and outside the classroom? Do you also have a parking sticker? Come to Miller Lawn for an event hosted by student development to meet fellow daytrippers, and learn the ins and outs of how to make your commuting experience not just tolerable, but perfectly pleasant(ville).

Circle of Greeks

Women’s Soccer vs. Adelphi University

Ping Pong and Foosball Tournament

Think you’ve got what it takes to be the tsar of table tennis? RA’s Bryce and Anna will be hosting a ping pong tourney in the ESPN longue in Alumni Hall at 7:30. If you’ve still got the bug, you can travel over to Elm Hall at 9:00, for a ping pong and foosball extravaganza, this one hosted by RA Nelson.

Study Abroad Fair

The sisters of Omega Phi Beta will be presenting the Alpha Beta BBQ, a great way to learn more about the organization, the sorority’s commitment to education, professionalism, service, diversity, and of course, good BBQ!

Football vs. American International College

Are you ready for some football? Our trusty mascot T-Bone sure is. Be sure to join him and the Setter faithful for the seventh annual Pace Goes Pink game, to raise funds for the Breast Institute at Northern Westchester Hospital in honor of breast cancer awareness. Featuring prizes and giveaways.

OLAS Kickoff Event

Start off the weekend on the right foot—specifically with the Organization of Latin American Students (OLAS), a student group whose purpose is to represent the Latino community and unite Latinos and non-Latinos on our campus. The boys in pinstripes are winding down on a successful season, which may very well see them back in the playoffs, with a shot at World Series glory. Cheer on Aaron Judge and the gang as they take on their AL East rivals, the Baltimore Orioles, in an OHRL sponsored trip to Yankee Stadium.
